The USATF Cross Country Specialist Course is your opportunity to learn the theories and skills that have produced champions at all levels: state, NCAA and World Cross Country. The 12-hour course features methodology from world-class distance coach Dr. Joe Vigil, as well as veteran distance and USATF coach educator, Scott Christensen.

Elevate your coaching to new professional ranks with USATF Level 2 certification. Recognized by NCACE and the IAAF, Level 2 combines applied sports science modules and in-depth training methodology in a chosen event discipline.

Application Deadline Approaching for National Championships Mentorship Grant
The National Championships Mentorship Grant provides emerging elite coaches the opportunity to shadow a USATF Master Coach and gain an inside look into the strategies, meet preparation, mental preparation and "in the moment" coaching at the Toyota USATF Outdoor Championships this July. Don't miss this unique opportunity to elevate your coaching and watch behind-the-scenes as top USATF athletes compete to represent USA at the 2019 IAAF World Championships.

Application Deadline: May 31, 2019
Grant: Four (4) $900 grants towards travel expenses. Coaching credential included. All recipients must be USATF Coaches Registry members and meet specified grant criteria.

USATF Emerging Elite Coaches Camp Returns in 2019
Current high school, club, college and professional coaches who have had success coaching athletes at the state, national or international level are invited to apply for this prestigious three-day camp at the Chula Vista Elite Athlete Training Center (CVEATC) in Chula Vista, California. Serious-minded coaches seeking advanced information, strategies and tactics with an eye towards elevating their coaching knowledge and developing national and international, medal-winning, capable athletes are invited to apply.
Prior USATF Coaching Education is desired, but not required. Coaches will be selected based on their proven abilities to develop athletes in their respective event(s). The camp is open to coaches of all broad event groups: Sprints/Hurdles, Endurance, Jumps or Throws.

Renew USATF Coaches Registry Requirements for 2019

Coaches are reminded to renew their status on the USATF Coaches Registry to maintain eligibility for obtaining a credential at USATF Indoor and Outdoor Championships, and to have access to select USATF Coaching Education Programs and coaching enhancement grants. Please verify your status on the USATF Coaches Registry by accessing the published list

A summary of registered coach requirements and steps is listed below. Do not delay renewal or submission of the required background screen, as processing may take up to two weeks. No applications for the Coaches Registry will be processed during the credentialing process at USATF Championship meets.
1.     Be a current USATF member
2.     Pass the USATF background screen
3.     Complete USOC SafeSport course
4.     Accept and adhere to the SafeSport Handbook
5.     List current coaching affiliation in the application process

Announcement of Recertification Guidelines for All Current Level 1 Coaches

All current Level 1 coaches are certified with USATF through December 31, 2020. The qualifying period for a current Level 1 certification is course completion from January 1, 2013-December 31, 2020. For coaches who choose not to seek a Level 2 certification before December 31, 2020, the options below apply to extend your Level 1 certification through the next Olympic Quad, 2021-2024. Level 2 or 3 certified coaches are exempt from needing any recertification to maintain a current coach certification with USATF. 

Choose one of the following options: 

· Option 1: Complete one course offered on USATF Campus, from January 1, 2018-December 31, 2020.
· Option 2: Complete one event skill specialist certificate (e.g. Learn By Doing Clinic or Cross Country Specialist Course), from January 1, 2018-December 31, 2020.
· Option 3: As of January 1, 2020-December 1, 2020, register for the online recertification exam to retest on the methodology and content of the Level 1 textbook.
A recertification application will be available in the last 12 months of the current certification period to submit completion of chosen option. Level 1 certification issued prior to December 31, 2012 are no longer current, and coaches will need to register and attend a Level 1 school
